    The 13th annual ‘Leitrim Sports Star Awards’ organised by the Leitrim Sports Partnership will take place on Saturday 8th February 2025 in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon. The purpose of the awards is to acknowledge Individuals, Sports Clubs, Teams, Schools and Community Volunteers for their outstanding contributions, achievements and recreation in sport in Leitrim.

     

    Speaking at the launch of the event Mick O’Rourke, Leitrim Sports Partnership Chairperson said “The awards aim to recognise not just people operating at the top level of their sport in the county but also to acknowledge those who provide vital supports to their clubs, team and communities”

     

    This year’s Sports Awards categories include.

     

    Volunteer of the Year recognises an individual who has shown dedication and tireless effort in supporting their sports club and community. Nominations are directed to people who arrange community events, promote physical activity, give their time voluntarily to train teams, run clubs, have kits ready or who help with the upkeep of pitches and facilities.

     

    School Sports Initiative of the Year is a new award to acknowledge the hard work of a sporting school, both primary & secondary, who led a sports programme or initiative which demonstrates exceptional achievement beyond the standard curriculum.

     

    Our Junior Sports Individual and Juvenile Team of the Year awards represent the flourishing area of juvenile sport in Leitrim and are two of the awards which receive the most nominations annually.

     

    The Senior Sports Individual and Senior Team of the Year awardsacknowledge athletes and teams for their outstanding performance and overall contribution to sport. It is always one of the most popular awards on the night.

     

    The Coach of the Year awards an exceptional Coach who has made a significant impact on their team or individuals within their coaching group(s).  

     

    Club of the Year recognises the outstanding achievements of a sports club for its overall excellence, success in fostering growth and diversity within the community.   

     

    Our Outstanding Achievement award is open to individuals and teams who have overcome significant challenges or have achieved something remarkable.

     

    The Hall of Fame award celebrates an individual who has made a lasting impact on their sport throughout their career and are an inspiration to others in the sporting community. Previous winners include Padraig Griffin, Packie McGarty, Maeve Quinn and last year’s winner was Declan Darcy.

     

    The overall award for Leitrim Sports Star of the Year will be chosen from the nominees from all other awards.

     

    The closing date for receipt of nominations is the 18th December 2024.  If you would like to nominate any Individual/School/Club /Team for one of the Awards, please complete a nomination form available through www.leitrimsports.ie or click on the nomination form link on our Leitrim Sports Partnership Social Media pages.  

     

    Nominations will be shortlisted by our panel of judges and the winners will be announced on the night of the awards.  Each winner will receive a specially handcrafted award, and these awards will be presented by each of our generous sponsors.
